Commentary	* Anita prefers to wear Nike sneakers. * Jean-Claude has nicknamed her ma petit, which annoys her. * She collects stuffed penguins and her favorite is a large one she calls Sigmund. When she is upset, she will often sleep with it. * 24 years old at the start of GP, she used to be a Catholic, until it was decided that animators must be excommunicated from the church. She became Episcopalian instead. * Anita was 8 years old when she lost her mother in a car accident. Her mother had a heart murmur. * When Anita's father remarried 8 years later (based on Christmas gift of lavender blouse Anita got from Judith not returned, while her 8 gifts given to her stepmother have been), it was to a blonde haired, blue eyed woman named Judith. She had two children with him, giving Anita stepsiblings - Andria and Josh. * At 13, she lost her dog Jenny. Three days later, Anita inadvertently raised her from the dead, which prompted her grandmother from her mother's side of the family,  Grandmother Flores, a priestess of vaudun, to teach her how to control her burgeoning powers. * Grandmother Flores was a vaudun priestess. She encouraged Anita's father to avoid her side of the family and encouraged her Christianity. She was afraid for Anita's soul, because it would be hard to be both necromancer and vaudun and yet not be evil. * At the start of the series, she has been an animator for about four years. * Anita was engaged to be married when in college. She had had sex with her fiancé and his mother forced him to break the engagement. This is why she is very skittish about physical relationships and love. * Take the turnoff to 40 West, then 270 up to Olive and it's a short jaunt to Anita's apartment. * Bert recruited Anita straight out from college. She had a B.S. in biology with an emphasis on the supernatural. She also minored in creatures of legend. While in college she had a semester in herpetology, taught by Dr. Greenburg. * She has said she has affinity with the dead. She is able to send out tendrils of her power, like ghostly fingers, and examine the graves of a graveyard and "sift" through them to determine what sort of supernatural creatures exist therein. * Anita is a coffee connoisseur, using gourmet coffee beams that she grinds on her own. * In her will, she has stipulated that when she dies, she is to be cremated. She does not want to be brought back from the dead as a zombie. * Anita is shot for the first time in LaC (by Cicely) Before that she had been bitten, stabbed, beaten and burned. * With 2 human deaths, Anita managed to raise an entire cemetery by herself and subsequently put them to rest once more. She did this without calling them by name, which is also unusual. This is the first time that Jean-Claude admits being afraid of her (cautious is the word he uses). * Her car is a 1978 Nova in CotD. By LuC she has purchased a deep, deep green Jeep Cherokee Country. * In CotD, Edward finally gives her a phone number if she ever wants to reach him. * Anita's vampire kit consists of a sawed-off shot gun with silver shot, mallet and enough crosses and holy water to drown a vampire. However, without an actual court order of execution, it is illegal for her to carry it in her car. She can go to jail simply for having it in her possession. * Because of her association with Richard, and her threat to kill when she says she will, the other lycanthropes considered her a rouge dominant lycanthrope. * Anita doesn't envision herself ever being pregnant. "Shit. Kids, me? Pregnant, me? Not in this lifetime." * Even before the triumvirate was formed, Anita, Jean-Claude and Richard had a bond between them because of their sexual tension. * Richard proposed marriage in LuC. While Anita said yes, she reconsidered because Jean-Claude wished to have a chance to woo her as well. * For Christmas in LuC, Anita gave Jean-Claude an antique cameo for his lacy shirts. She gave Richard a gold cross and made him promise to wear it. * Anita could hold a vampire's gaze without being sucked in by their power when she was marked by Jean-Claude. However, she discovers in LuC that she can do so without the marks, thus showing her own rise in power. * At a particularly grisly murder scene, Anita threw up on the body. The cops in RPIT poke fun at her for it. She tells this to Larry when he is about to view his first murder scene. * Anita is afraid of flying. * She is the legal Vampire Executioner for a three state area. * As of BB, she has been working with RPIT and Dolph for about 3 years. * Anita's middle name, Katerine, is for her father's favorite aunt. When she died, Anita sensed her soul hovering over her body at the funeral. She didn't see the soul, though. This is how she knew it took three days for the soul to leave the body. * Anita is officially declared a master when Ivy must resort to brute strength in order to defeat her. This troubles Jean-Claude for a bit. ^.^ * Her zombie bag is burgundy and her vampire bag is white so that it is easy to tell the difference even in the dark. * Niña was Anita's mother's nickname for her. Seraphina knew it and tried to use it against her to woo Anita to her side. She also invaded Anita's dreams and left the scent of Hypnotique, which was her mother's scent. Larry smells it as well. * After BB, Anita no longer considers Jean-Claude to be one of the monsters, which terrifies her all the more. * When Dominic Dumare comes to her for help, he explains that she is gaining notoriety in Europe. * By tKD, Anita has been dating Richard steadily for seven months. * When Anita and Richard order Chinese food, he always orders an extra serving of crab rangoon. * Anita considers her hair to be her best feature, because it's a natural curl. * According to Jean-Claude, Anita's power as a necromancer only flares or shows it self when she feels that she is being threatened. When Liv tried to intimidate Anita, she did not detect this until Anita reacted to her. * When Richard accepted the marks from Jean-Claude, he was able to share power with Anita during the Lupanar. * Anita chose Jean-Claude first. Yay! *ahem* Unfortunately, she lost Richard because of her choice - at first.-You really dont want to know-LN * Thomas taught her to call Richard's beast into herself so that when he was enraged she could calm him down by restraining his beast in her body where it would have no outlet since she wasn't a lycanthrope. * Anita got her diving certification in college. Just after she finished, though, she was in a diving accident in Florida which left her claustrophobic. * Because of the triumvirate, Anita finds that Jean-Claude and Richard can invade her dreams, and vice versa. * When Anita was still in college, one of her professors committed suicide but they couldn't find his body. Because she could not control her powers yet, he came back from the dead in three days, when the soul has fled the body, and entered her dorm room. Her roommate switched out of the room. * Anita gets a little better with touchy-feely in BM because of the wereleopards. Zane has an unspoken agreement with her that he can touch her for the sake of touch alone, but not to be sexual. * In BM, Anita fears that she is becoming a sociopath because she is able to blank her mind  completely when she is about to shoot someone. She can also drain her face of all emotions, though she was not very good at it in the past. * Because of the marks, Jean-Claude is able to give Anita memories of Asher and she ends up feeling more comfortable around him because of it. * Although she is hurt badly in a fight, Anita's injuries heal so quickly that it scares her.  * Anita almost never apologizes for being wrong. But she does so for Richard at least twice in BM. * While channeling Raina, Anita inadvertently declares herself Frejya and runs away from Richard while the other werewolves chase after her for the chance to mate with her. Eventually, Richard catches up and they consummate their passions for each other. * After Anita and Richard make love, Anita notices that the marks between them are stronger and Richard admits that Jean-Claude thought that this might happen between them, which of course, annoys Anita. * When Anita reached out at one point to touch Richard, their auras converged and became one. Howard was able to see this. * In this book, the munin are very strong, especially Raina. Anita  uses Marianne to help her learn to control them so that they don't submerge her personality and make her do things she doesn't wish to do. * For the longest time, Anita has been saying that certain events might break something inside her which would never be fixed again, but not until she saws off Thompson's fingers does this become a reality.  * Anita is able to use the power of the munin and her links with Richard and Jean-Claude to heal Nathaniel of a fateful wound. After she  heals Nathaniel, Richard declares that he has found his lupa and swears not to "audition" any other women.  * At the start of OB, Anita is taking Kenpo lessons. * On the plane to Albuquerque, NM, Anita is reading Sharon Shinn * Anita doesn't like clover honey or veal, but she can tolerate small mounts of sage honey. * Edward admits that neither Olaf nor Bernardo are good enough to kill him, but Anita is, although he still has to slow down his reflexes a little for her. * Anita is unable to fall asleep in cars because her mother was killed in a car accident. Damian is a possibility, but Jean-Claude doesn't elaborate. * Anita's beast, while more feline now, can still recognize Richard's lupine beast. * When Anita discovers that Richard had Gregory put in the oubliette, she punches his face and does some serious damage. Anita Katerine Blake has hair that is black and curls just above the shoulders. The solid nearly black-brown of her eyes matches her hair. Her skin is very pale. She has multiple scars. The worst scars are on the bend of her left arm. She also has two cross-shaped burn marks. One on her arm and another on her chest. Asher is a blue-eyed blond, but that description doesn't do him justice. The waves of his shoulder-length hair is golden. Not blond, but gold. His hair is almost metallic in its glittering brilliance. He eyes are a blue so pale, they are almost white, like the eyes of a husky. Half of Asher's face is the beauty that drew a master vampire to him centuries ago. The other half is covered in scars. Holy water scars. The scars start about an inch from the midline of his face so his eyes, nose, and those full, perfect lips remained untouched, but the rest was like melted wax. James Marsters as Zane Zane By the time the cops arrived, Zane was healed. He'd curled up around Nathaniel's unconscious body like it was a teddy bear, still crying. He stroked Nathaniel's hair and muttered over and over, "She'll keep us safe. She'll keep us safe. She'll keep us safe." I think the "she" was me, and I was in way over my head. (Burnt Offerings, page 23, paragraph 2) Race Lycanthrope - Leopard Status Alive Title n/a Description Zane was about 6 foot and stretched thin and tall. His hair is cotton white at first, then dyed a shocking yellow (neon buttercups) and now, it's an iridescent pale green. It's cut short on the sides with the top long in moussed spikes. His eyes are brown. Commentary * Zane tried to be the leader of the wereleopards after Gabriel, but was unable because he wasn't as strong enough an alpha to do so. So instead, he forced Anita to take over by trying to kidnap Nathaniel from the hospital. * Zane has a silver nipple ring. * He has a gravelly deep voice and dainty upper and lower fangs in his mouth, indicating that he has spent too much time in his wereleopard form. * When Jason accuses him of being bisexual, he doesn't argue it, since he just gave Jason a big kiss on his lips in play. * Before he became pard, Zane was a junkie, so in a sense Gabriel and Elizabeth saved him because he did not allow drugs. * Zane had his arm shot with a rifle by Terry Fletcher and if he were human, he would have lost his arm. However, Anita healed him along with the other injured. * Zane and Cherry were once lovers, but as of BO, they weren't any longer. * Because of Raina and Gabriel, he and the other wereleopards are trained "bottoms". They are the submissive partner in a dominant-submissive interaction. * Zane has an extra set of keys to Anita's house. * He begins to show an interest in Cherry again, even acting jealous against Caleb, who tries to show a passing interest in her.

Commentary	* Caleb is one of the new wereleopards enlisted to keep Anita warm while she heals. He's naked at the time. * Caleb is about 5 inches shorter than Elizabeth, but that didn't prevent him from having sex with her.  * When Anita was trying to heal Gregory, everyone stripped, but Caleb had to keep his pants. He circled around a nude Cherry, showing definite interest, but then Zane comes between them, growling a warning at Caleb.

Commentary	* Jean-Claude's self-proclaimed age is about 205 years old in GP. * His nickname for Anita is ma petite, much to her chagrin. * He is a master vampire, and as such, has the ability to call an animal. His animal to call is the wolf, and as a result, he also can control werewolves to a certain degree. * Jean-Claude also has the additional ability to feed off of sexual energy. He is from Belle Morte's line (Beautiful Death) of the Vampire Council. She created a 'race' of vampires that were stunningly beautiful and often used sex as a means of gaining power. * Jean-Claude is also able to touch a person with his laughter.  * He has a dark colored cross-shaped scar on his chest. * Because he hid his powers when Nikolaos was the Master of the City, many vampires think that Jean-Claude is not powerful enough to hold the city. It also doesn't help that at first, Anita refuses to be acknowledged as his human servant. * Jean-Claude was the one to introduce Richard to Anita, and is jealous when she starts to like him. But he wonders, "Do you lust after Richard because he's handsomer, or because he's human?" * He is very calculating in his dealings with Anita, and it's never really certain whether he has Anita's best interest at heart, his own interest, or a combination of the two. * Jean-Claude understands Anita much better than Richard ever does. He knows that for her, once she has had sex, it would a commitment for her. * His taste in gifts is much better that Richard's. He gave her a glass sculpture of penguins on an ice floe for Christmas in LuC. He is always sending her a dozen white roses. After they had consummated their relationship, the white roses included a single blood red one. * He is part of a triumverate, including both Anita and Richard. At Christmas time, they discovered their link to each other. Jean-Claude's power and Richard's power rushed through Anita, who acted as a focus. Jean-Claude's power is like a cool rushing wind. * Jean-Claude has made several vampires, including Robert and Gretchen. One of his powers is the ability to drain the power of his own vampire so that they are a dried husk. * In the past, Jean-Claude used to be in Serephina's care, along with Kissa. Approximately two hundred years ago when he was still considered a catamite for the other master vampires to use. * Anita hears Jean-Claude giggle for the first time after he drinks the blood of both her and Jason. Necromancer, with a chaser of werewolf. This was done in order to save his life after he was nearly killed by Janos. * Before he was brought over, Jean-Claude was a whipping boy for an aristocrat's son. There are white scars on his back which attest to that fact and Anita sees them when he is bathing. He was born a French peasant.  He was chosen because he was fair of face. * Bella Morte brought him over, he was brought over for lust and used by other vampires. A catamite. * His hair is longer in BB than it was when Anita first met him and she comments on this. He evades the question by simply saying she prefers longer hair on her men. * Jean-Claude admits that he loves Anita in BB, but she cannot respond. * Up until KD, Jean-Claude had backed Marcus for Ulfric of the Thronnos Rokke clan. But he then withdrew his support and threw in for Richard instead. * The Vampire Council has chosen Jean-Claude to represent them in public and ordered him to stop hiding behind an imaginary higher master. * During the time that Jean-Claude was "competing" for Anita's affections against Richard, he was celibate. * His living room in the Circus of the Damned is all black and white with silver. Hanging above the fireplace is a painting from the 1600s. It portrayed himself, Julianna and Asher.  They had traveled together for twenty years. Because of this painting, Anita had to rethink his age. Now she believes him to be at least 400 years old. * He also owns  Danse Macabre, a new dance club, with Raina Wallis as a silent partner. * Jean-Claude made Robert and had him for a companion for over a century. Jean-Claude truly grieved when he was killed by Dominic, Sabin and Cassandra. * Jean-Claude and Richard mingled their power in Anita for the first time, and she used it to raise zombies from the dead, and three vampires: Willie, Liv, and Damian. Jean-Claude cautioned not to speak of it because the Vampire Council would kill Anita. She was able to control Willie more than Jean-Claude and told him never to threaten her again. * Jean-Claude knew not to give Anita the first mark again when she was hurt, even though Richard encouraged him to do so. However, Richard accepted the first mark for himself so that their initial triumverate could be in contact when Richard and Anita went to the Lupanar. * After the Lupanar, Jean-Claude was the one to comfort Anita and was the first to sleep with her. *.* * Dominic chained Jean-Claude using a cross to keep him subdued with Richard. Still, he managed to give Anita two marks so that she could escape Raina and Gabriel. When she managed to free them, he protected her because Richard would kill them both with his death if he did not. Anita refused this option and demanded that he save them both. Jean-Claude had to give her the third mark in order for him to save Richard, who had had a sword thrust through his chest. * Jean-Claude gave Anita a black satin nightie. The night she wore it, he was able to invade her dreams until the phone rang, waking her up. * When Anita goes to Myerton, TN to "rescue" Richard, Jean-Claude makes her take werewolves, wereleopards and other vampires because he wants her safe and he cannot go there himself, thanks to Colin. Commentary * When Anita first met him, Richard was in bed, naked. * His upper chest is smooth with no chest hair, which Anita approves of. ^.^ * He has a degree in preternatural biology which, at first, explains why he knows so much about werewolves. However, he himself is a werewolf as well, even though Anita was unable to detect it. * Richard teaches science at a Seckman Junior High School. * In CD, Jean-Claude orchestrates their meeting, but because he can sense that Anita likes Richard and so forbids the werewolf from revealing his lycanthropy to her. Richard is "on loan" to the vampire by Marcus, his leader. Richard was currently next in line for leadership in his pack. * Anita's first date with Richard was supposed to spelunking, but it got changed to Catherine's Halloween party and then got postponed altogether when Anita was bitten by the Raju and nearly died. * After the battle with Oliver, Richard is forced to admit to Anita that he is a lycanthrope. He had become one when he was given a bad batch of lycanthropy serum. * For Christmas in LuC, Richard gave Anita a stuffed toy penguin that played, 'Winter Wonderland', a bag of black and white gummy penguins, and a velvet jeweler's box with a written note inside it: "Promises to Keep." * He is part of a triumvirate, including both Anita and Jean-Claude. Anita Blake Vampire Hunter

 Laurell K. Hamilton writes many books, one being a series called Anita Blake Vampire Hunter. The main characters in these books are, of course, Anita Black, Jean-Claude, a vampire himself (but a good friend of Anita), Richard, a werewolf (another good friend), and many other things that do not exist, including, zombies, every kind of were-animal imaginable, ghost, ghouls, and witches.

Merry Gentry

 Another series of Laurell K. Hamilton is about Merry Gentry, a sidhee from the Unseelie Court. As a Sidhee she is like a elf, just not as small, and no pointed ears. Being only half Sidhee, Merry is not as immortal as the rest of her people-or those who will be hers when her Aunt, Queen of Air and Darkness, passes on the throne-if her cousin doesnt kill her first. Thats where the other main characters come in.

Jean-Claude to Anita No one can say it quite like Jean-Claude! ¹ "My little one." This is Jean-Claude's favorite nickname for Anita. Initially Anita hated it, but I think its growing on her. ¹ "My truth." Jean-Claude told Anita that he should call her this, because she always tells him the truth about himself. In this particular case, Anita told Jean-Claude that it showed when he needed to feed. ¹ "My Love" or "My Lover" Jean-Claude called Anita this, when asking her if she would survive his death. Anita didn't know what it meant and decided not to ask. ¹ "I love you." Jean-Claude said this to Anita after she told him that she was willing to risk her life fighting the council, but not his. Anita answered, "I love you too." ¹ "I dream of you." This was part of a note Jean-Claude left for Anita. The note was left beside her sunken marble tub. The tub was surrounded by white candles, waiting for nightfall. ¹ "An indefinable something that is difficult to put into words." Jean-Claude used this phrase when comparing Anita to Cassandra. As Cassandra said, "He does talk pretty, doesn't he?" Anita to Asher The bond between Anita and Jean-Claude lets Anita see Asher through Jean-Claudes memories at times. It's also allowed her to be a bit more eloquent than usual! ¹ "You are beautiful, my love." Anita said this to Asher when she was afraid he was dying. ¹ "You shatter my heart." Anita said this to Asher, when she thought he was dying. Asher actually smiled when he heard this. ¹ "I kiss you everywhere." Anita said this to Asher when she was afraid he was dying. ¹ "My goldfinch." This was Jean-Claude's nickname for Asher when they traveled together with Julianne. Anita called Asher this when she was begging him to save Nathaniel's life. Asher asked Anita never to call him this again, unless she meant it. Asher to Anita He gives Jean-Claude a run for his money when it comes to a romantic turn of phrase... ¹ "My beloved." Asher's nickname for Anita. ¹ "I drink you with my eyes." Asher said this to Anita, when she thought he was dying. Anita, in her own loveable style, replied: "Don't drink me with your eyes, damn it, drink me with your mouth." ¹ "I adore you." Asher said this to Anita, right before he sank his fangs into her. Poor Anita will never be the same! Never said! ¹ "I have a head-ache!"
